John Hickey, The Social Studies Department Chairman at DSHS recently contacted DSEF about the status of a grant that DSEF awarded last spring. In October, Hickey took 38 World History sophomores to see a production of Voltaire’s Candide at the Huntington Theatre. “World History II students study the Enlightenment period in history, as well as the political philosophers such as Voltaire,” explains Hickey. “This production was excellent and the students greatly enjoyed it. This musical satire with powerful political messages was very well received by our students.” Some of the DSHS history students will also have an opportunity to visit the WWII History Museum in Natick with costs partially offset by the same DSEF grant.
